specialty coffee course

Here at D612 we’re proud to announce a Sensory Foundations Course with Helena Oliviero, certified SCA trainer, that will take place on Saturday 17th November 2018.

SCA is the acronym for Specialty Coffee Association , born in 2017 as a result of the unification of the Specialty Coffee Association of America and the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe. The SCA combines rich histories on both side of the Atlantic and around the world.

After the unification of the two entities also the education program has been unified. The full program, known as The SCA Coffee Skills Program, consists in 6 different modules:

- Introduction to Coffee

- Barista Skills

- Brewing

- Green Coffee

- Sensory Skills

- Roasting

Each module is then split in three parts so as to give the students the chance to learn through specific stages of knowledge: the Foundation, Intermediate, and Professional.

The Sensory Skills Module is thought to learn about the essential of sensory evaluation in a practical and interactive manner. It investigates the way we perceive what we taste, how to evaluate coffee’s natural characteristics, and implementing this knowledge in business.

The Foundation level of the Sensory Skills Module provides a first taste of a specific coffee discipline and it is a great way to get insight to help decide if going on learning more or not. This level requires no previous experience, so everyone who’s in love with coffee can take it!

Helena Oliviero is a SCA certified trainer. She will join us hosting the Foundation level of the Sensory Skills Module at the D612 Coffee Roasters factory on Saturday 17th November 2018. The registration to the course will have to be done on the Italian SCA website, where you will have to look for this specific course hosted by us; then, at the end of the course, Helena will release a certificate of attendance on behalf of the Association to each participant.

Please follow us and our upcoming news to get updated regarding the price of the course and the opening of the registrations which will have to be done directly on the official SCA website.
